Get Font Ready for Installation

Once you have downloaded the font file (ZIP format), you must run an unzipping software to extract all the files. Most of the latest operating systems have built in support for ZIP file formats so in such case you don't need any additional unzip software. Before installation make sure you have appropriate privileges on target machine.

Supported font formats - Windows

  • TrueType (.ttf)
  • OpenType (.otf)
  • Windows bit mapped (.fon)
  • PostScript Type 1

Installing fonts - Windows 8/7

Right-click on the font file and choose Install
or double-click on a font file to open the font preview and select 'Install'.

Installing fonts - Windows Vista

Right-click on the font file and choose Install

Installing fonts - Windows XP

  • Open fonts folder, Start > Control Panel > Appearance and Themes > Fonts
  • Click 'File' menu, select 'Install New Font...'
  • Browse for the font (.ttf, .otf or .fon) you want to install, and then click OK

Installing fonts - Windows all Versions

Copy and paste the font file (.ttf, .otf or .fon) directly into the Fonts folder, usually C:\Windows\Fonts or C:\WINNT\Fonts

Installing fonts - Mac OS X 10.3.x and later (using FontBook)

Copy and paste font files into /Library/Fonts (for all users), or into /Users/USER_NAME/Library/Fonts (for single user).

Installing fonts - Linux all Versions

  • Open /home directory
  • From the menu select View > Show Hidden Files
  • You will see '.fonts' folder. If not, create it with same name
  • Copy and paste the font files into '.fonts' folder

Fonts not showing up in any program

  • If copy and pasted, make sure you copied a proper font file.
  • Check if installed font format is supported by target operating system.
  • Restart target application after installing new fonts.
  • If restarting the application fails, reboot operating system.
